HBA Skilled Trades Scholarship

The HBA Skilled Trades Scholarship aims to provide annual scholarships to deserving individuals – aged 18-25 years old – who are pursuing a construction career either as a direct hire OR through post-high school trades training or earning a 2-year college degree in the area of construction. Scholarships may include:

  • Money for tools, specialized clothing, gear or safety equipment and/or transportation to an individual employed at a residential builder or subcontractor
  • Money for fees and expenses at a post-secondary construction trades school (i.e. Southeastern Michigan Construction Academy, etc.)
  • Money for fees and expenses at a 2-year college construction or construction trades program

Scholarships to be Awarded

  • Paul & Cheryl Robertson Honorary Scholarship – $5,000 – One Scholarship
  • David S. Compo Family Memorial Scholarship – $3,500 – One Scholarship
  • Walter R. Stoskopf Memorial Scholarship – $2,500 – One Scholarship
  • General Scholarship – $2,000 – One Scholarship
  • General Scholarship – $1,500 – Up to Two Scholarships
  • General Scholarship – $1,000 – Up to Four Scholarships

Number of scholarships awarded is at the discretion of the HBA Charitable & Educational Foundation

  • Application will be considered for all scholarship levels. No separate application needed
  • Scholarship is not redeemable for cash and is non-transferable
  • Scholarship check will be made jointly in the name of the recipient and educational institution, if applicable
  • The scholarship is valid only for the current school year, if applicable
  • Application and all supporting documentation must be received no later than June 16, 2025

Qualifications of the Applicant

  • Whenever practical, scholarships will go to applicants who are originally from Southeastern Michigan
  • Applicant should be between the ages of 18 and 25 at the time of application
  • Applicant must be pursuing a construction career as a direct hire with a residential construction builder or subcontractor OR through post-high school trades training OR through a 2-year college in construction

Obligations of the Scholarship Recipient

  • If in trades training or enrolled in a 2-year college program, maintain satisfactory grades or GPA
  • Conduct self in a manner that does not discredit the school, the employer or the building industry
