PWB Scholarship Application

Scholarship Eligibility

  • Applicants must be pursuing a course of study for a professional career in the building industry, including but not limited to Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Interior Design or Landscape Architecture.
  • The student’s permanent home address is within the area served by the HBA of Southeastern Michigan (Wayne, Oakland, Macomb and St. Clair Counties).
  • Applicants must currently be enrolled in a community college or university.
  • If the student will be transferring to another school for the next semester, the applicant must provide a letter of acceptance to the new school.
  • The student may attend college part-time or full-time.
  • The applicant must have completed a minimum of 30 college credits; official college transcript is required.
    • Note: No more than 15 credits can be AP or IB credits earned in high school.
  • The applicant must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher in college coursework.
  • The number of scholarships and award amounts will be determined annually. The minimum scholarship award for a full-time student attending school for a full academic year will be five hundred dollars ($500).
  • One letter of recommendation from a college instructor is required. Whenever possible, the letter should be from an instructor for a course related to the major. The applicant may also submit one (1) additional letter from a PWB member, HBA member, or an employer.
  • The applicant must commit to conducting themselves in a manner that does not discredit the school, the Professional Women in Building Council, or the building industry.
  • All applicants will be considered for all scholarship levels. No separate application is needed.
  • A previous PWB scholarship award does not automatically disqualify the applicant from consideration for another PWB scholarship as long as the student continues to meet all eligibility requirements.
  • The annual application deadline is June 1st.

Submission Checklist – all of the following must be submitted by June 1:

  • Completed & signed application.
  • Unofficial college transcript (the student can usually download this from their student portal)
  • One (1) letter of recommendation from a college instructor, for a course related to your major.
  • Transfer students only: A letter of acceptance to the school that you are transferring to.
  • Optional: One (1) additional letter of recommendation from a PWB or HBA member or an employer.
  • Official college transcript must be requested from the school before June 1. The applicant understands that: The official transcript cannot be submitted by the student. An official transcript must be sent directly to the Professional Women in Building by the school. A scholarship award is contingent on receipt of the official college transcript from your school.
